Once on the island you will find a National Trust castle site, and can enjoy a beautiful long walk or the beach. The history of this island goes back to 634 AD, and you’ll get to savor the feeling of the island when you visit a local cafe or enjoy one of their renowned crab sandwiches. Even though the island is small, you’ll find several hotels, pubs, or guesthouses offering overnight accommodation.
Boroughbridge
When you would like to leave the big city behind, you can travel some four and a half hours from London to Boroughbridge. Halfway between London and Edinburgh, this picturesque little town has lovely architecture, a town centre with cobblestone streets, and a bandstand in the centre of town.
Once in Boroughbridge, you’ll find some wonderful British pubs and sweet boutique shops. You can enjoy a beautiful country walk through the Yorkshire Vale or take a boat trip on the river Ure. If you are a fan of history or the mystical, you’ll also find three standing stones that are even taller than Stonehenge. With a twenty minute walk, you’ll reach Aldborough and the old Roman town known as Isurium Brigantium.
Keswick
The beauty of Keswick and surrounding areas was immortalized in the poetic song of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Robert Southey, and William Wadsworth. Located in the Lake District, between Skiddaw and Derwentwater, Keswick is a natural delight.
Once there you can enjoy nearby Helvellyn Mountain, a swim in a waterfall, or the savor the stunning scenery of the nearby Lake District towns. One of the top features of the area is the stone circle of Castlerigg. You can also enjoy theatre by the lake, with a variety of delightful films, talks, shows, and live music.
